TRACEPrivacy policy
Effective 6 September 2026. Applies to the TRACE app on iPhone and Android and to tracetimer.com.
The short version: TRACE keeps everything on your phone. There is no account, no server, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting. The only network request the app makes is for map tiles, and the only way anything leaves your phone is you choosing to share or export it.
What the app records
- Location (GPS), once a second, while you are recording a ride — and only then. It is the measurement the app exists to make. Background location permission is asked for so a ride keeps recording with the screen off and the phone in a pocket.
- Motion sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer) while recording, to locate launches, measure G and estimate climb.
- Camera and microphone, only while you have video recording switched on for a ride. Clips are stored beside the ride.
- Photos you choose to attach to a vehicle or ride, from your library or camera.
All of it is written to the app's private storage on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
What leaves your phone
- Map tiles. The map view requests image tiles from OpenStreetMap's tile servers. That request carries your IP address and the map area being shown, as any map does. See OpenStreetMap's privacy policy.
- Things you share. Exporting a ride, sharing a clip or a picture, saving a video to your phone's library, or leaving feedback each create a file that you hand to an app or a person of your choosing. Feedback contains the app's version, your phone model and OS version, and — if you leave the switch on — the ride's GPS track and results. It is emailed by you, from your mail app, to support@tracetimer.com.

What we do not do
- No account or sign-in. We do not know who you are.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or advertising identifiers.
- No selling, sharing or transferring of data to anyone, because we do not have any.
Deleting your data
Delete a ride, a clip or a vehicle inside the app and it is gone from the device. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored. Because nothing was uploaded, there is nothing to ask us to delete — an email you sent us is the one exception, and we will delete it on request.
Children
TRACE is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them; it collects nothing from anyone.
This website
tracetimer.com is a static site. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which sees the request like any web server would.
Changes
If the app ever gains a feature that sends data anywhere, this page will say so before the feature ships, and the date at the top will change.
